Basic and Humanities Sciences Department

The Department excels in the teaching and learning of the basic humanities in accordance with recognized scientific and academic standards, delivered through both in-person and online instruction, alongside community service and the promotion of scientific research that meets the needs of the University's students and the local community at the regional and international levels. The Department works to enhance the University's supporting requirements through the diversity of the courses it offers. The faculty regards the basic humanities as central to cultivating students' cultural awareness and intellectual depth, guiding them toward excellence and creativity within a framework of quality standards.

Vision To equip students with foundational knowledge and skills and to connect these to their diverse sources. Mission To teach and apply the humanities foundations in order to empower students to develop creative, critical, and scientific thinking and to prepare positive, engaged citizens.

Departmental Objectives

• To equip students with core competencies across Islamic culture, national education, university conduct, entrepreneurship and creativity, computer science, economics, and law, and the use of technology and learning resources — fostering excellence in building a knowledge society and achieving leadership through creative outcomes grounded in sound scientific-research skills.
• To develop students' foundational humanities knowledge and skills through modern instructional methods. The Department supports the College's other departments in preparing graduates equipped with knowledge, skills, and values, with a local, regional, and international presence, and motivated toward lifelong learning and keeping pace with the demands of the age.
• To advance scientific research and foster foundational-humanities creativity programs in accordance with international standards.
• To build productive partnerships with the local community.
• To strengthen core thinking skills by deepening students' understanding of all courses and their associated literature, reinforcing critical and analytical reading and writing skills, within an academic environment that nurtures creativity and meets the needs of society, the labor market, and the requirements of sustainable development.

Strategic Objectives

• Course development: To continue introducing new courses aligned with the demands of the age, such as Artificial Intelligence and Good Governance.
• To continue strengthening students' awareness and cultural literacy through emphasis on the courses National Education and University Conduct, Islamic Culture, and Thought and Civilization.
• To enhance the quality of the curricula and ensure that students receive up-to-date content reflecting the latest scientific developments across all disciplines, even though the courses offered are supporting and introductory in nature, and to pursue diligent implementation of this plan over the coming years.
• To expand the range of specializations the Department offers.
• To encourage faculty members to increase their scholarly and research activity.
• To collaborate with local organizations in delivering workshops and conferences that address contemporary issues.
• To strengthen students' capacity to engage positively with social, humanitarian, and national issues.
