About the Department:
The Library and Information Management Program aims to prepare qualified professional graduates capable of organizing, managing, storing, retrieving, and disseminating information resources in all their forms to meet the needs of target beneficiary communities. The program also seeks to develop graduates’ ability to prepare information and produce reliable data that support decision-making in its various dimensions.
Furthermore, the program prepares scientifically, technically, and technologically competent human resources in the field of Library and Information Science, in line with the needs of the Jordanian and Arab labor markets. Graduates are equipped with the skills required to collect, organize, retrieve, and provide access to information resources, while efficiently employing modern technologies in their professional practice, thereby contributing to the development and advancement of the profession.

Objectives
The Department aims to facilitate the transmission of knowledge across individuals, generations, eras, and locations. This vital role is achieved through diverse communication channels, which serve as essential tools of civilization and act as carriers of information, enabling the exchange and growth of knowledge.
Accordingly, managing information resources is not an end in itself, but a means to broader goals such as information dissemination, education, cultural enrichment, and entertainment. The program’s objectives are centered on the following key areas:
- To equip students with essential theories and principles in library and information science, covering both functional aspects and technical processes such as cataloging, classification, indexing, abstracting, information services, reference work, preservation, lending, and supporting services like photocopying and translation.
- To prepare competent and highly qualified professionals capable of performing their duties efficiently and delivering high-quality services, enabling them to integrate effectively into various information institutions.
- To introduce students to diverse information settings and institutions, as well as to keep them informed of the latest developments and advancements in the field, thereby enhancing their academic knowledge and practical experience.
- To encourage students to continuously develop their skills through self-directed.
- To foster a sense of professional belonging among students and promot knowledge sharing, collaboration, and the exchange of experiences. This also supports creativity, independent thinking, and the ability to generate innovative ideas.
