The Department of Nutrition and Food Processing at Al-Huson University College is one of the first academic departments in the field of specialization in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the diploma level, as teaching began in 1982, and in the academic year 2012/2013 a bachelor’s program was established in the field of nutrition and food processing.
The specializations taught in this department were previously within the diploma level, but an independent department was established under the name of the Department of Nutrition and Food Processing in 2015/2016.
The department awards a diploma in food processing technology and a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and food manufacturing. The department provides the opportunity for students - as agricultural engineers in the field of food science and human nutrition in the future - to find available job opportunities in local and national institutions related to food and nutrition, such as: various food factories, hospitals, the Ministry of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, the Royal Scientific Society, and the Standards and Metrology Institution, as well as in universities and nutrition and diet centers. This department contains food workshop, the food analysis laboratory, the microbiology laboratory, in addition to the oils laboratory.
The bachelor's degree is awarded after completing the study plan, which contains 136 credit hours, in addition to field training in food factories and nutrition departments in hospitals.
The department also awards an intermediate diploma in the food manufacturing after completing 72 credit hours in addition to field training in food factories and successfully passing the comprehensive exam. The department includes a qualified educational staff of faculty members and laboratory supervisors in the field of nutrition and food manufacturing. The department also includes laboratories and workshops equipped with development equipment and equipment to serve the programs offered by the department to meet the needs of the labor market at the local and regional levels.

The department seeks to provide specialized programs in food and nutrition sciences of high quality in education, community service and scientific research that will prepare qualified human cadres with high quality and professional levels in the various fields of food and nutrition sciences and provide them with the necessary knowledge needed in the theoretical and practical aspects of the bachelor’s degree and intermediate diploma, which suit the needs of the labor market and are able to compete in solving the problems of society and the food and nutrition sector and contribute to improving the standard of life and advancing economic development and sustainable development.
