Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology runs a course for fifth-year medical students for eight weeks (rotation) and again in the sixth year for another 8 weeks.
The fifth-year course:
An eight-week course where the students receive theoretical lectures for the first two weeks, followed by six weeks of clinical training, which includes:
  • History taking and ward rounds.
  • Attending labour ward sessions.
  • Attending Antenatal and gynecology clinics.
  • Attending family planning clinics in health centers.
  • Occasional theatre sessions and Cesareans sections.
  • The student prepares seminars under the supervision of the medical staff.
  • Occasional skills lab.
The sixth-year course:
An eight-week course: four weeks in Al-Hussein 'Al-Salt New' Hospital and Faculty of Medicine, followed by four weeks in the Royal Medical Services hospitals.
The rotation includes:
  • History taking and ward rounds.
  • Attending labour ward sessions.
  • Attending Antenatal and gynecology clinics.
  • Attending family planning clinics in health care centers.
  • Regular theatre sessions and cesarean sections.
  • The student prepares seminars under the supervision of the medical staff.
  • On-call Rota.
  • Regular skills lab of labour mechanisms, instrumental deliveries, and CTG.
