Department of Basic Science

The Department of Basic Sciences provides many obligatory courses for other programs and departments in the college such as Arabic Language, English Language, and Computer Skills. As well, the Military Science is taught in cooperation with the Jordanian Armed Forces - the Arab Army. These courses are important for developing the students’ linguistic and computer skills essential to meet the updated requirements, especially technological acceleration, and communication with others. The department also directly and by its specialized faculty members organizes the Placement Examinations tests in Arabic Language, English Language and Computer as these exams are required for new students to sit for when they join the college's programs. In addition, the Department of Basic Sciences teaches courses that promote research and aim to integrate the students’ linguistic, computer, research and teaching skills to enable them to handle different academic and professional tasks. The Department offers courses in Scientific Research Statistic Methods, Designing Teaching, Methods of Teaching Arabic Language and Methods of Teaching Mathematics.

Moreover, the department aims at offering courses that help develop the students’ religious, patriotic, and moral sense. The Islamic Culture course aims to teach students true Islamic principles that mandate dialogue, mutual understanding and peace. The department also offers the National Education and Military Sciences courses that aim to develop good citizenship and morals among students. The Department of Basic Sciences is considered the biggest department in the college; it has 21 faculty members who hold a Ph.D. degree and MA degree in various majors.
Department's Vision

Our vision is invest on the department’s academic programs to create an environment of legitimate competition that will serve the college, university, local community and the country in order to ensure excellence in performance, proficiency, durability, and flexibility to keep up with developments.
Department's Message

The department seeks to prepare individuals who can cope with modern scientific developments by having good language proficiency in Arabic and English as well as computer. The department supports various academic programs in the college in partnership with other departments in the college by offering academic courses to enhance the students’ professional and academic skills in response to the requirements of the labor market such as Scientific Research Statistic Methods and Designing Teaching courses. In addition, there must be complementarity in building up the student’s personality in accordance of the Islamic culture, the national education and morals of a good citizenship. As a result, the department offers academic courses that deal with these dimensions such as Islamic Culture , National Education and Military Science courses . Moreover, the department works to benefit from the academic members to serve the community in the fields of developing language and computer skills by holding specialized training courses in language and computer applications supervised by specialized staff members of the department.
Objectives

  1. Keep up with recent scientific developments at the local, Arab, and global levels.
  2. Improve students’ Arabic language, English language and computer skills.
  3. Conduct courses targeting students and members of the local community.
  4. Work with other departments in the college to prepare individuals / students to embark on the labor market.
  5. Develop good values among students and building up their personalities.
  6. Enhance interactive communication skills between students and teachers through research projects.
  7. Participate in conferences and workshops to be informed of the latest scientific developments according to their specializations.
  8. Establish language laboratories.
  9. Offer other educational programs such as the Arabic and English language programs.
