 Princess Rahma University College
Department of Social Work

Many changes have occurred in Jordan during the past decades in the economic, social, and demographic fields. As a result, many social problems stood out as barriers to the individuals’ and groups’ efforts to carry out their duties and interact positively with the environment. In addition, the rate of poverty and unemployment has increased, and the number of the less fortunate population has also increased.
At that time, the Ministry of Labor and Social Development established an Institute for Social Service in 1965 that offers an Associate Diploma in Social Service. The Institute is concerned with graduating specialized and qualified social workers to work at social service institutions. When Al-Balqa Applied University was established in 1997, and by virtue of its law, the institute was integrated into it and named Princess Rahma College of Social Service. After that, the Social Service program at Princess Rahma College was upgraded to offer a bachelor’s degree.
The Department of Social Service offers BA in Social Service and aims at preparing specialized social workers who are able to deal professionally with fluctuating societal problems by means of the three social service methods: the individual, the group and the community organization. Moreover, the department aims at inculcating the values of the social service profession among students in the department. Furthermore, it aims at attaining academic and practical skills as well as experiences for our students in the department to be able to compete better with other universities’ graduates in Jordan and the Arab world.
