This department is considered one of the major departments in Al-Salt faculty of social sciences. It was established in 2012 in service of the Arabic language and its people and was the university’s contribution in developing the Arabic language, meeting the local and regional job markets, and coping with the global interest in learning and teaching Arabic language and literature at foreign universities.
The department awards the B.A degree in Arabic language and literature and is expected to start awarding higher degrees (MA and PhD) in the near future.
Since its establishment, the department has been concerned with the linguistic and literary issues at the research level, holding symposiums, offering courses, lectures, workshops, and academic meetings in order to introduce participants to the most recent theories and innovations in Arabic language and literature and connect that with society’s needs.

The department’s Mission is not separate from the message of the Arabic language itself in addition to graduating Arabic majors who are equipped with scientific skills and the ability to face the new developments and compete at all levels.

- Communication the authorities locally, regionally, and internationally through participation in scientific conferences, scholarships, and through holding conferences and symposiums in-campus and off-campus
