The Chemistry Department was established in 2012 to complement the different scientific disciplines in Faculty of Science at Al-Balqa Applied University/ Main Campus.
The study plan was carefully designed to focus on the applied and practical aspects of different chemistry categories. Accordingly, several and well-established laboratories were equipped with the latest scientific and research equipment to fulfill the University's vision and the requirements of the local, regional and international markets.
It’s worth mentioning that chemistry department was among the first departments to offer a master's program in the field of Applied Chemistry at the Main Campus. Currently, there are 24 staff members in our department. Our academic staff in the department are actively involved in the scientific research in the field of: organic synthesis of bioactive compounds, Natural products & phytochemistry, bioorganic chemistry directed towards the synthesis of peptides, environmental chemistry, supramolecular chemistry and other aspects of applied chemistry.
Our staff members publish their scientific findings in highly prestigious peer-reviewed chemistry journals listed in Scopus (Q1, Q2) and Web of Science (SCIE).
Field in the labor market
The chemistry major is distinguished by the diversity of its fields in the labor market, which include: education at its basic and university levels, pharmaceutical and detergent factories, chemical factories, chemical laboratories, the Royal Scientific Society, laboratory equipment and chemical materials companies, and the Standards and Metrology Institution, which is concerned with conducting laboratory tests on foodstuffs, fertilizers, cosmetics, detergents, cement, phosphates, and labor. As a chemical analyst in laboratories of major industries such as cement, potash and phosphate factories.
Vision
The Department of Chemistry derives its vision from the vision of our Faculty of Science to be a creative and distinguished incubator for chemists, students and researchers at the local and international levels, including undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, to meet the needs of community activities and the labor market.
Mission
The Department of Chemistry at Al-Balqa Applied University seeks to prepare graduates with a high degree of knowledge and skills in all theoretical, scientific and applied aspects in the field of chemistry.
The goals that the department seeks to achieve:
The goals that the department aims to achieve are derived from the goals of the Faculty of Science, which are in turn derived from the university's goals. This is accomplished by providing high-quality academic programs, especially in the practical applied sector, and by achieving integration among all its components and scientific, educational, and research activities through the following:
Empowering students to acquire and utilize both theoretical and applied knowledge in all areas of chemistry.
Providing the local market with graduates equipped with skills that are in line with the needs and priorities of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
Training students to understand the nature of chemistry specialization and the learning process and qualifying them to keep pace with modern educational methods.
Deepening chemists' sense of responsibility and adhering to quality control methodology in chemical laboratories.
Expanding the boundaries of knowledge in the field of chemistry through research, programs, and courses in various chemical knowledge domains.
SStrengthening cooperative relationships between faculty members at the university and chemical industries at the local level.
Serving the broader local community by offering expertise, training, conducting courses, and engaging in meaningful scientific activities.
