In line with Al-Balqa Applied University’s mission to serve both the local and Arab communities, and in response to the national need for accredited and comprehensive diagnostic centers, the Comprehensive Center for Measurement and Diagnosis of Disabilities was established to provide scientifically-based and standardized diagnostic services for children with disabilities, using globally recognized assessment tools adapted to the Jordanian context.According to the Ministry of Social Development, there are currently only three accredited diagnostic centers in Jordan, which collectively receive over 15,000 children annually under the age of (6)-a number insufficient to meet the growing demand. Moreover, many of the tools used in existing centers are relatively outdated and do not reflect the latest international developments in psychological and educational assessment.Given the increasing global prevalence of disability, including in Jordan, where World Health Organization (WHO) statistics indicate that 10–15% of the world’s population lives with one or more forms of disability, and the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities reports that 11.2% of Jordan’s population-approximately 1.2 million individuals—are persons with disabilities, there was a clear national need for a specialized academic diagnostic institution.
The Center was therefore established as a comprehensive and specialized facility dedicated to diagnosing and assessing various categories of disabilities, including: (Intellectual Disabilities, Hearing Impairments, Visual Impairments, Autism Spectrum Disorders, earning Disabilities). It provides comprehensive psychological, educational, and developmental assessments conducted by a team of experts and specialists from Al-Balqa Applied University, aiming to ensure precision, scientific credibility, and community impact.
