Overview

Salt College was established in 1975 as an institute for teachers. At the beginning, the college offer programs and courses such as science, mathematics, Arabic, Sharia, English, sports education, fine arts, social studies, and others.
In 1980/1981 the college became an intermediate community college. New specializations were introduced to meet the needs of the labor market such as (Plant Production, Fashion Design, Clothing Manufacturing, Interior Design, Pharmacists Assistance, Architecture, and Surveying). In the same year, the general comprehensive examination was approved for students of comprehensive community colleges.
In 1997, the Royal Decree was issued to establish the Al-Balqa Applied University. The campus located in Salt has become the permanent main-campus, and thus Salt College became affiliated with the university with the rest of the other colleges.
In 2006, the college was granted the permission to open a Major in child rearing for the bachelor’s degree level and to convert the college into a university college. In the college, there are (110) faculty members and (49) administrative staff members in the college. The number of students in the college who are enrolled in diploma degree programs is (460) and (1560) in bachelor’s degree programs.
In the academic year (2007/2008), students were started to be accepted in Quantities and Specifications Calculation, Architecture, and Graphic Design majors. In the next the academic year, the Department of Paramedical Sciences was created, and medical specialties were attached to it.
The college witnessed further development and expansion. In the academic year of (2010/2011), Pharmacy, Medical Records, and a diploma in Midwifery were added to the specialties offered by Salt College. They are introduced as exclusive 3-year specialties for female students.

After that, the scope of specializations on the bachelor’s level was expanded to include Arabic Language, English Language, and recently Law.
The college is committed to continue adding new specializations that serve the local community at the bachelor level, such as Educational Technology, Pharmaceutical Industries, and Educational and Vocational Guidance.

Vision

For Salt College to be a distinguished scientific edifice that provides academic majors that serve the needs of the local community, implements the policies of the mother university, Al-Balqa Applied University, and keeps pace with scientific and technological progress in the region and the world.

Goals

  • Introduce new specializations that are compatible with the needs of the labor market through cooperation with employers
  • Increase cooperation with the local community by offering educational courses
  • Emphasize and pursue professional development of faculty members and administrative staff by offering them scholarships and training courses
  • Equip the college with the necessary laboratories and the necessary equipment to achieve the desired educational goals
  • Provide services that contribute to achieving productive and enlightening university environment for students
  • Solicit funding sources to increase the college’s budget
