Library and Information Management
The single major that sets Al-Balqa Applied University apart from all other state-run universities in Jordan is “Library and Information Management” the thing that drew the attention to encouraging the career and those who work in the field. The department was established in the College of Planning and Administration in the academic year of 1999 – 2000. Later, it was transferred to the Assalt College for Human Sciences in the academic year of 2011 – 2012 to answer the needs of all kinds of libraries and media centers and provide them with qualified people in the field.
The flourish of information in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan improved in practice and application which necessitates that universities and other academic institution in Jordan heed the academic rehabilitation more attention especially in this field of knowledge. Moreover, the current stage requires that new online library and information programs be set up. One of the universities in Jordan has to shoulder the responsibility of training students and providing the market with the qualified human resources in a country that claims the pioneering pillar in a variety of fields especially the field of information.

Vision
The Department of Library and Information Management does its best to broaden its pioneering role in preparing the qualified people in the field of information to answer the needs of the international information community. More to that, graduates for the Library and Information Management play the role of a mediator between those who are looking for information. Not only that, they play a pioneering role in a diverse variety of settings equipped with the advanced technological tools. The academic staff is highly qualified in the field of libraries and library sciences which strongly enhances the quality of teaching, researching and services. All that maintains the department as a distinguished center.
Mission
The Library and Information Management Department provides the human element, research and service for the libraries, the community and information institutions. It also qualifies the information experts on the highest level to serve the core roles in Jordan, the nation and the world.
Objectives
Our objectives are to:
- To prepare professionals and information experts who exhibit the highest level in leadership, service, research and education in a world lead by technology.
- To advance and make contributions in pioneering research and scholarships
- To maintain a supportive and flexible educational environment embracing the students` individual capabilities and their special needs alongside their future prospects.
- To contribute to the professional, academic, and general aspects of life by providing consultations, sustainable education and leadership.
- To highlight the administrative methods related to the field of libraries and library sciences and manage the Internet content to help solve the problems encountering the Arabic information institutions.
The objective of the Library and Information Management program
The program aims to provide general education and plan for the students to enroll in this career. One of the objectives of the program is to highlight their knowledge and skills which are restricted to the following:
- The roles and effects of the information policies, the practices, and information itself on the people from different walks of life in a fast growing environment of technology all over the world
- The need of humans for information in order for them to establish, develop and put to use the systems and services that answer the needs of those who need information.
- The career practices necessary to succeed in the positions related to the information its production to achieve the level of establishing digital libraries in Arabic.
- The philosophy, principles and legal and ethical responsibilities in the field.
