The Department of Materials Engineering was established in 1997, and this engineering track is considered one of the unique disciplines that were solely luanched at Al-Balqa Applied University amongst the other Jordanian universities.
Materials Engineering is the science that studies the structure, property, processing, and performance of different materials categories including metals, polymers, ceramics and composites which are used in the development of industrial products. Currently there are approximately 150 students in the Department of Materials Engineering who are taught by a group of elite faculty.
The faculty in the department are specialized in Materials Engineering and Manufacturing Processes. In the Department of Materials Engineering, there are a number of laboratories used for the testing and evaluation of engineering materials, including a scanning and transmission electron microscopes laboratory, polymer processing laboratory, Polymer analysis laboratory, metallurgy/metallography laboratory, casting and heat treatments laboratory, mechanical testing laboratory, corrosion laboratory.
