Teaching Arabic for Special Purposes
First: Proficient Level
This program aims to focus on one field of Arabic language:
- Literature: Poetry, Classical and Modern Prose, literary text analysis and criticism with reference to old and modern Arabic theories for appreciation of many Arabic literary genres in different periods..
- Language: Syntax, Morphology, Philology, Phonology, Rhetoric, Stylistics, Lexicology and lexicography, Language Variation, and Linguistics.
- Religion: Koranic verses reading, reciting, and interpretation, Reading Prophetic tradition to be exposed to its concise and condensed expression, Language relation to religion, Fiqh, and worship, Reading through Interpretation books, tradition, and Fiqh, and developing ability to write religious speeches for purposes of Da'wa, preaching, and guidance.
- Politics: Arabic political concepts, Arabic History, Contemporary political theories, and the ability to analyze political events as against Arab mindset connected with the Arabic History.
- Economics, Social sciences, Law, Medicine, Engineering, Media, or otherwise. Students are exposed to main concepts and terms in each of these fields to ultimately gain mastery in the area of his/ her interest.
- Other Areas: Arabic calligraphy, Arabic anthropology, etc.
N.B. Fees and credit hours are to be specified upon parties' agreement and purpose of the program.
Second: Preliminary Level
This level does not fall within the scope of the programs offered by the center. Rather, it is an optional level for Arabic Language learners who have no background in Arabic, or those who desire to have more knowledge in Arabic language for reasons of everyday communication. Therefore, the ASOL section employs the simplest instruction and curricula that encourage students to acquire the content in fun and thrill, taking into account that this level is a starting point to learn Arabic by non-native speakers and that success at this level necessarily leads to success in the higher levels, and hence, the acquisition of Arabic language. Of the most important topics taught at this level are:
- Greeting People.
- Introducing yourself and others (e.g. asking and answering questions about name, career, country, nationality, place of residence, and others).
- Asking and answering questions about time.
- Hobbies
- Pronunciation and spelling of Arabic alphabet based on the three diacritics.
- Arabic Figures.
- Learning names of days, months and reading the dates.
- 30 hours
- Fees: JOD 300 only for instruction fees.
