- Housing
Students can choose from a range of housing options for their stay in Amman, including apartments, hotels, or homestays.
Al-Balqa Applied University Language Center (BAULC) is happy to facilitate connections between students and help international students locate affordable housing options.
- Apartments
A variety of apartments and rooms (in a shared apartment) are available throughout Amman. Popular neighborhoods for students, especially those close to BAULC, include Jabal Amman, Jabal Weibdeh, Shmeisani, Rabieh, Abdoun, and Sweifieh. Apartment rooms typically range from JD 150-400 per month.
- Hotels
For short-term stays, usually two months or less, many students prefer hotels for their convenience, including amenities such as cleaning services and breakfast.
There are three hotels close to BAULC that students have had positive experiences with, each offering unique benefits. BAULC will endeavor to secure competitive pricing for international students.
- Homestays)
Staying with a homestay family can provide numerous advantages for students looking to improve their colloquial dialect and immerse themselves in the local culture. This arrangement allows for practical use of Arabic and offers insights into cultural dynamics, often leading to lasting friendships.
However, students may face challenges such as limited autonomy due to host family expectations or differing eating norms. It’s crucial for students opting for homestays to clarify rules and expectations with their host families in advance.
BAULC collaborates with numerous vetted homestay families. Homestays are considered independent housing, with BAULC acting solely as a facilitator. The cost is around JD 500 per month, which includes a private room, internet, utilities, breakfast, and cleaning services. Legal responsibility for rental agreements and payment lies with the student. In the unlikely event of any issues, BAULC will provide support to the best of our abilities, prioritizing student safety.
We have thoroughly vetted and interviewed all homestay families we work with and strongly discourage students from arranging their own homestay accommodations with unknown families, as we can access information and check references that students cannot.
