Mais Sweiss is an Assistant professor in the Department of Biotechnology at Al-Balqa Applied University. She holds a PhD degree in Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Bath in the United Kingdom. She has a Master's degree in Biotechnology and a Bachelor's degree in Bioagricultural Technology from Al-Balqa Applied University.
Mais Sweiss is interested in applying green microalgae to solve environmental issues like water scarcity, biofuel production, food security and biofertilizers production. Her research focuses on using green microalgae to remove nutrients from wastewater, bioprospecting for halotolerant green microalgae for high lipid production and value-added compounds. Furthermore, she is working on applying microalgae as biostimulants and biofertilizers. In addition, she works in DNA barcoding for algae, animals and fungi identification.
