Dr. Hazem Aqel is a professor of Medical Microbiology at Al-Balqa? Applied University. He obtained his B.Sc. degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from Kuwait University/Kuwait, his M.Sc. degree in General and Medical Microbiology from University College London/UK, and his Ph.D. in Microbiology from Birmingham University/UK. He has pioneered structural studies of isolation and characterization of thermophilic bacteria and bacteriophages, bacterial enzymatic activities, antimicrobial plant extractions, and understanding pathogenicity, latency, and reactivation of viruses. His current research is in viral infection and antimicrobial resistance.
